Part of our goal for Season 1 is to set a strong precedent and best practices for OCM DAO’s successful use of Prop House.

Also, the Prop Houses of all communities are public for anyone to see, so we want to set a good example for other DAOs. Future Prop House users will certainly learn from us just as we have learned from Nouns.

Tips for Proposers

• The Season 1 theme for OCM DAO is Brand and Community Building. It’s requested that Props should generally have some connection back to this theme.

Prop House Prop Template

• Unfortunately, it is not currently possible to edit your Prop after it is submitted. Therefore it’s strongly recommended that you share a draft in Discord, ask questions, gather feedback and iterate your Prop before posting the final version in Prop House. That way you’ll put your best foot forward.

• IMPORTANT: please include your Twitter / Discord handles, etc. in the text of your Prop. Other community members will likely want to reach out with questions or to help. We have found being able to communicate with the proposer is a key factor in the voting process.

• Every Prop posted to Prop House has a dedicated Discord thread under the #dao-chat channel created for it (more info below). We strongly recommend participating on this thread! You can provide further info, answer questions, and receive feedback from the community. Many Prop teams have found the feedback valuable for their project regardless of the outcome on funding.

• Anyone is able to propose in Prop House. While the community may favor projects from existing OCM holders for obvious reasons, all are welcome to submit their idea!

Important Notes on Grant Size

• The grants for each round are a fixed size. For example, if the round is 5 grants x 2 ETH: you will receive a 2 ETH grant if you are in the top 5 vote-getting Props. It’s not possible to ask for less (or more) than the grant size of the round. If you win, you’ll still receive that fixed grant amount.
• A simple way to think about this then is “If I had X ETH, what could I do / deliver?”
• Get creative about sizing your Prop to fit into the size of the available grant! For example—
• If what you need is more than the grant size of the current Prop House round:
  • Try breaking it down into smaller milestones which might be fundable through multiple Prop House grants over time.
  • Even if you have a really big idea, think about how it can be first piloted through an initial Prop House grant. You’ll gain evidence and traction to win the next tranche of funding in a future Prop House round or even through a much larger full DAO Proposal later.
  • If you need an additional amount that’s just a little more the grant size and it really doesn’t make sense to divide the project across multiple Props, you could consider requesting the extra you need from the Small Grants Committee.
• If what you need is less than the grant size of the current Prop House round:
  • There may be a smaller round upcoming, like 10 grants x 1 ETH.
  • You could add a buffer to your budget as a reserve, increase the amount which is consideration for your time & effort spent on the project, or use part of the grant to reward a Karma to yourself or a project member (esp. someone new to OCM). This is esp. appropriate if your budget is less than the grant size but still in the ballpark.
  • If what you need is much less than 1 ETH, you should request funds from our Small Grants Committee instead.

How to Get Feedback on your Prop

• If you are new to OCM, please follow us on Twitter and join our Discord to start getting to know the community!
• Try floating your idea in the #dao-chat channel (or #general if you are not yet an OCM member) to test the waters first. You can even start the discussion well before the round you intend to enter. Fellow members can provide initial reactions and suggestions to help you refine the idea before you post the Prop during the round. You can then link back to this discussion in the Prop form itself. (We are looking at ways to better organize threads & discussion on Prop ideas).
